Arrival/Dismissal:
AM Class: Mondays only: 7:50-10:40 am
Tuesday-Friday: 7:50-11:25 am
PM Class: Mondays only: 10:40-1:30 pm
Tuesday-Friday: 11:25-3:00 pm
Arrival: Students will arrive through the front black gate in front of the school near the office.
Dismissal: Students will be dismissed by the black gate located at the left of the Kindergarten building near the staff parking lot. Please keep in mind that this parking lot is for staff only, parents who park here may receive a ticket.
Please help your child learn the importance of being on time for both arrival and dismissal. Instruction begins right away and we don't want anyone to miss anything!
We dismiss the children one at a time. Until we begin to recognize faces, please plan a few extra minutes at dismissal time to ensure that your child arrives home safely. Please list the names of people who are allowed to pick up your child on the kindergarten information sheet. If you ever want to have someone not listed on your information sheet pick up your child from school, please send a note or notify the school office.
Closed Campus:
George Kelly Elementary is a closed campus. This means that family members are not allowed past the black gate unless you check in at the office and sign in. To be able to participate in classroom activities (such as be a parent volunteer), you will need to go through the volunteering clearance process. You can pick up a volunteer packet in the school office
Absences:
If your child is absent, please phone the school office at 209-830-3390, or send a note upon your child's return with the date of the absence and the reason your child was absent.

Stations:
We have station time Monday through Thursday. During this time we break the children into groups to work with one of the teachers or a parent volunteer.
Folders:
We will be providing each child with a folder the first week of school. Please make sure that your child brings his or her folder to school every day. Papers, notes, and homework will come home to you in this folder. Please check and empty this folder every day so as not to miss any important information that we may be sending home.
Homework:
A homework packet will be sent home on Monday and is due on Friday.
Your child will receive a sticker on the outside of his or her folder if the homework is completed correctly.
Recess/ Snack:
We will have a 20 minute recess each day. If your child would like to bring something to eat during this break, please send a small, healthy snack.
Birthdays:
If you would like to send in something for your child's birthday, please notify us a few days ahead of time to make arrangements. Due to district policy, all treats must be store bought. We recommend food items that are easy to hand to students on the way to recess, please no sheet cakes!
Due to financial issues, we ask that you please do not send in goodie bags. Giving goodie bags may be financially difficult for some students and then they feel sad that they can't do this for their birthday.
Unless the whole class is invited, we are not putting birthday invitations in folders. Too many invitations are discovered by other children and we are trying to avoid hurt feelings in this matter. We hope you understand.
Sharing:
Your child is invited to bring in one item for sharing on Fridays. Please send the object in a paper bag, and help your child write down three clues that will help us guess what is in the bag. You can write the clues right on the bag or on a separate sheet of paper. Your child will then guide the class in guessing what is in the bag:
Example of clues for a ball:
-it starts with a 'b'.
-it rhymes with hall.
-it's shaped like a circle.
Super Star:
Each Friday, one child in class will be the 'Super Star' for the week. We will send a Super Star poster home to you, along with our class mascot (a stuffed animal), and a journal. Please help your child fill out the poster and write about your child's experience with the mascot in the journal. Return the bag to school the following Monday.
Super Star is picked randomly each week, one turn per student. We realize waiting for our turn can be hard and can seem like an eternity for some. We will continue to remind them they will all get their turn before the year is up.
Star Certificates:
Every day we will send home a few (1-4) star certificates to students to celebrate positive behavior that day (following the rules, being a good friend, etc.). We take turns handing out certificates so each day a new group of students is rewarded.
Please know- do not expect to receive this star every day even though your child shows consistent good behavior. A big part of kindergarten is taking turns!
To check in on a daily basis for your child's behavior, check the behavior calendar on the inside of your child's folder for daily feedback.
Very important- Keep these star certificates at home! Once your child has collected 5 star certificates, they can bring the five stars back to school and will get to pick a prize out of the treasure box.
Behavior:
We use praise and positive reinforcement daily in our classroom. We believe in giving choices and helping children learn to be responsible for their own actions. This is an ongoing learning process, and like any other concept we teach, we work on it daily.
Each child will have a monthly sticker calendar stapled inside his or her folder, and will get a sticker each day for positive behavior choices. This will help keep you informed of your child's daily behavior. Each month we will give a Star Certificate to every child who receives stickers each day of that month.
When the teacher feels that the child has not made a good behavior choice (such as behavior that is harmful to himself/herself/others, or disrupts classroom instruction), there will be a verbal reminder of the rules.
If the problem persists, the following consequences may take place:
*The child may have a time-out at a table. this will give the child a chance to think about making better behavior choices. Afterwards, the teacher and the child discuss the problem and he or she will be reminded of the rules.
*If the child has more than one time-out, he/she will not receive a sticker on the calendar inside the student's folder for that day and a note will be sent home. This will enable us to work together to reinforce good behavior choices. Please sign the note and return it to school the next day.
*If the problem persists over a period of time, we will schedule a parent-teacher conference to discuss a solution.
*A severe problem (something that would require a child to be removed from the classroom) will be referred to the principal. Examples would include biting or defiance.
We appreciate your support in our effort to help your child learn to make choices that are good for them and others around them. We look forward to this opportunity to work with you and your child.
